Peg Young is a Registered Nurse, earning her Associates Degree in 1973 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2000.  She has been with the Rutland Regional Medical Center since 1976, and her nursing experience includes Surgical Outpatient Care, Post -Anesthesia and Intensive Care.  She accepted her current position as coordinator of the Community Education and Tobacco Cessation Programs in January of 2000.  In November 2006 she completed the Vermont Tobacco Treatment Specialist certification.

"As a nurse I have seen the effects of tobacco use in my patients. They take longer to recover from illness and surgery and even when they recover, they often lose the quality of life through chronic illness.  What really keeps me motivated is the memory of family members who have died of tobacco related diseases."

Janice Coolidge is a Tobacco Cessation Facilitator. She has been employed at RRMC since 2000 and worked in a variety of patient focused settings, prior to taking the Tobacco Cessation Program Assistant position at Rutland Regional Medical Center in 2005. She has completed the American Cancer Society Fresh Start facilitator training in 2006. In 2009 completed the UMASS Basic skills for working with Smokers and the Maine Medical Intensive Tobacco Treatment Specialist training. As a facilitator she provides support for both tobacco clients and the program coordinator.

"Many smokers name stress as the number one cause of relapse. What we help them work on is identifying stressors and building new, healthier coping mechanisms. Stress happens to us all. It is how we filter it and manage it that makes a difference."

 

Sarah Cosgrove

Sarah Cosgrove is a Tobacco Cessation Inpatient Tobacco Educator and Respiratory Therapist. She completed her BA in Developmental Psychology and Studio arts in 2003 from Castleton State College and earned a degree in Respiratory Therapy from Vermont Technical College in 2008. She has fulfilled the American Cancer Society Fresh Start facilitator training, UMASS Basic skills for working with Smokers and in 2009 attended the Maine Medical Intensive Tobacco Treatment Specialist training. As of January 2010 she will have completed her Vermont Tobacco treatment Specialist certification.
